Women in Medicine – Dr. Amanda Penny Q&A

by | Sep 18, 2020 | News

1. Why did you pursue medicine?

I pursued medicine because I found myself studying engineering and wanted a job that was more service oriented. I also pursued medicine to have a career where I could build relationships while solving problems.

2. What made you choose pediatrics?

I chose pediatrics because I enjoy interacting with kids. Children bring so much joy into their interactions.

3. What do you love most about your job?

I love when parents tell me their child plays ‘Dr. Penny’ at home!

4. What would you tell a younger girl who wants to be a doctor?

Learn to love to read. You will need to read avidly to have lifelong learning that is required as a doctor. Also, cultivate curiosity and the skill of listening. Many times listening to the patient and asking good questions has led me to the diagnosis. Remember that you are capable of what you put your mind to.
