Women in Medicine – Dr. Katy Patrick Q&A

by | Sep 18, 2020 | News

1. Why did you pursue medicine?

I came from a family with many physicians and, in seeing their passion for caring for others, inspired my own desire to pursue medicine.

2. What made you choose pediatrics?

In medical school, I realized the privilege it was to take care of the most vulnerable of our population.  Being able to care for those who often can’t care for themselves is so rewarding and drew me to pediatrics.

3. What do you love most about your job?

The pure joy and energy children express is contagious and makes it easy to come to work everyday.  I also love that small changes made with a child’s health through preventative medicine can create long-lasting benefits throughout their life.

4. What would you tell a younger girl who wants to be a doctor?

Logistically, I always say just keep your grades as good as you can, work hard, and you can make it happen.  In the end, there is no doubt all the hard work is worth it.
